Physics of Nanostructures
Nanostructures made from metal, semiconductors, oxides and their hybrid
material systems may show interesting physics. We are interested in
particular in the electrical, thermal and magnetic but also mechanical
and optical properties which show deviations for nanostructures in
comparision with that for bulk materials. In our research we investigate
phenomena like electronic transport quantum effects in in semiconductor
nanostructures ("quantized conductance") and the magnetization
reversal in nanomagnets or the increase of efficiency in
thermoelectrical nanostructures by blocking phonons.
Nanopatterning
In the Novel Materials group we use modern methods for the fabrication
of nanostructures as "top down"-lithography using electron or atomic
force microscopes or "bottom up" growth methods or etching techniques
including self-organizational effects.
