Motivation
The ability to form heterostructures from different materials has revolutionized the electronic and optical technologies during the past decades. We intend to explore and cultivate structures that combine fairly dissimilar materials: inorganic semiconductors, conjugated organic materials, and metal nanostructures. The rationale that led us to identifying fundamental research towards such functional HIOS as most relevant future topic follows from the strengths and weaknesses of the individual materials as pictured below:
Merging of these three material classes into novel hetero- and nanostructured HIOS will allow for combining the individual material’s strengths while compensating for deficits as well as potentially creating entirely new opto-electronic properties.
