Coherent amplification and lasing of metal/organic hybrid structures


Objectives

  • To fabricate and optimize the smallest object capable of providing a coherent amplification of radiation, i.e. a surface plasmon polariton laser (SPASER)
  • Investigation of SPASER properties on the single particle level
  • Electrical excitation via semiconductor interfaces

Approach:

Fabrication of a metal core/conjugated organic shell hybrid structure with spectral overlap of dye emission and plasmon resonance

Experimental Setup and Methods:



Looking for typical laser threshold behavior in nanoparticle solutions and spectral narrowing of the emission.
Investigation of single SPASERs after spincoating by confocal microscopy combined with atomic force microscopy (AFM).
