Department Colloquium: Prof. Dr. Saskia Fischer (Humboldt Universität zu Berlin) talks about this topic:
Nobel prize of physics 2025: Quantum Physics in Macroscopic Systems
Abstract
This talk gives an introduction into the physics leading to Nobel prize of 2025: Experiments with an electrical circuit in which demonstrated both quantum mechanical tunnelling and quantised energy levels in a system big enough to be held in the hand. First, we will demonstrate peculiar features of the macroscopics state of superconductivity by a levitating superconducting train. Then, the route of experiments revealing the awarded quantum physics in action on a chip will be discussed. The Nobel jury states that the prize includes “high hopes for quantum technologies”, therefore the talk closes with an outlook on solid-state based systems for quantum technologies.
The Colloquium will be held in "hybrid" format, i.e., you can join the talk in the lecture hall or via zoom.
