Abstract
The classical theory of Brownian motion rests on fundamental laws of equilibrium statistical mechanics, such as the fluctuation-dissipation theorem and equipartition. Its generalization to non-isothermal Brownian motion constitutes a playground for theories of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics. An interesting variant is provided by hot micro-swimmers. Their persistent Brownian motion exemplifies scalar and vectorial steady-state fluctuation theorems and thermodynamic uncertainty relations, and it can be harnessed by microscopic heat engines.
