Although science communication is becoming increasingly important, there are hardly any courses on the topic for students at German universities. Projektlabor Wissenschaftskommunikation (www.project-sci.com), funded by the Berlin University Alliance, seeks to harness the potential that lies in bidirectional communication between students, scientists and the public.

Science communication is not just the dialogue between scientists and society, but is also the art of getting people excited about science. Students can take on a special social role here, as they themselves are newcomers to the world of science. We offer participants in our course Projektlabor Wissenschaftskommunikation the opportunity to work on their own projects or on projects in collaboration with researchers and then present them to the public.

The project network is based at the three major Berlin universities and encompasses a broad spectrum of expertise. Thanks to research groups with a focus on the natural sciences, but also on education and outreach, an exciting range of topics is covered, which includes the following points:

  • Novel Materials
  • Computer science und its teaching methodology
  • Innovative experimental Methods
  • Participatory education of technology
