Abstract: Nanoscale X-ray imaging offers unprecedented views into native and artificial volumetric structures. In particular, the short wavelengths and high penetration power of X-rays enable study of thick, complex 3D structures. Today nanoscale 3D imaging based on X-ray tomography is established as a valuable microscopy technique. Some selected applications from materials and life sciences will be presented. In addition, modern approaches to overcome resolution limitations of the tomography approach using modern synchrotron sources and advanced focusing diffractive optics will be discussed. In particular, a novel method for nanoscale 3D X-ray imaging that offers less than 10 nm isotropic resolution and overcomes severe limitations of all current X-ray transmission imaging methods will be presented.
