Equal opportunity

Equal opportunities are discussed in two variants. The concept of representative equality of opportunity demands that access to social goods and values should be the same for all people, regardless of the life circumstances attributed to them, such as gender. In contrast to outcome-oriented representative equality of opportunity, the concept of conditional equality of opportunity assumes that equal access to social resources should only be given in the case of equal aptitude and performance. Conditional equality of opportunity therefore leads to unequal distribution of resources being justified by reference to differences in performance.
