Department Colloquium:: Prof. Dr. Rafael Lang (Department of Physics and Astronomy, Purdue University, Indiana, USA) will speak about "Dark Matter".
Abstract
Dark Matter exists, but what is it really made of? I will review the pertinent cosmological and astrophysical observations and what they tell us about Dark Matter. While the quanta of Dark Matter are still unknown, they are searched-for with versatile experiments, from satellites in orbit to detectors deep underground. Different particle hypotheses such as ultralight axions, sterile neutrinos, and heavy WIMPs are being tested. Rapid progress is made on all fronts with the most promising areas of parameter space currently being probed. And yet, a recent surge in collaboration between theory and experiment has lead to many creative new projects to tackle one of the Universe's greatest mysteries.
