Z-Rekonstruktion aus Elektronen und Myonen bei ATLAS

The main focus of this thesis is the reconstruction of Z-bosons decaying into electrons and muons. First collision data recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC (CERN) were used. The cut-based reconstruction and the reconstruction with a kinematical fit as two different methods are presented. A cut on the invariant mass was used for the cutbased reconstruction. The reconstruction with the kinematical fit adjusts the momenta of the outgoing particles to a Gauß or Breit-Wigner distribution. The effects of the particular reconstruction on purity and efficiency are analysed. Furthermore, the reconstruction was conducted using the period F data comprising a luminosity of 1.8 pb-1 at a centre of mass energy of 7 TeV. The reconstruction with the kinematical fit showed a purity of (99.2 ± 0.2)%.
