Abstract. In the Kaluza-Klein theory, warped extra dimensions give rise to massive excitations of Standard Model particles. In a specific model, the Randall-Sundrum 1 scenario, the first Kaluza-Klein excitation of the gluon is expected to decay primarily into top quarks, and also have a large production cross section at the LHC. This makes the Kaluza-Klein gluon an interesting signal to look for. The talk contains a brief description of how warped extra dimensions can give rise to these massive excitations. The experimental challenges in the search for heavy top quark resonances, such as the Kaluza-Klein gluon, are outlined, as well as some strategies for how to search for them with the ATLAS detector at the LHC.
