Abstract:

When ultra-high-energy cosmic rays (UHECRs) travel in the universe, they can interact with the photon backgrounds and produce secondary particles. Among others, the most interesting ones are photons and neutrinos. They are believed to be powerful messengers to probe and constrain the acceleration mechanisms and presence of UHECR sources, even located at large distances from which no UHECRs can reach the Earth. For a wide range of models in evolution of source luminosity, composition and maximum energy at the source, we present the expected flux of cosmogenic secondaries and compare these prediction with current experimental measurements (IceCube, Fermi). We will also discuss the possibility of signing the presence of UHE proton sources using these secondaries.
