Application for a Physics Account
The Physics Account provides you with a Physics email address (default: FirstName.LastName@physik.hu-berlin.de).
Important Change: eduroam and VPN Login from August 2026 onwards
CMS is upgrading its RADIUS server infrastructure. From August, login to eduroam and VPN will only be possible using an HU-Account — login with the Physics Account will no longer be supported. The Physics Account remains fully available for all local institute services (in particular email).
- You already use eduroam/VPN with your HU-Account: No changes required.
- You currently use eduroam/VPN with your Physics Account: Please update the credentials on your devices to your HU-Account details. Setup guides: eduroam, VPN.
- You do not have an HU-Account: You can apply for an HU-Account. People without a regular entitlement (e.g. external staff) can apply for a sponsored account via section 5 of the HU account application form, or apply for a Funktionsaccount. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Application with CMS Account (mandatory for students, preferred option for staff)
To apply, please fill in the linked form. Please note the following:
- Students must provide their matriculation number and postal address
- for staff, stating the research group is sufficient
- as your login, choose your HU-Account
The completed and signed form can be submitted in one of two ways:
- send a scan or photo from your HU-Account email address to uco@physik.hu-berlin.de
- or drop the upper part into the green letterbox next to room 1'427 (PC pool).
Once your Physics Account has been activated, you will be notified via your HU email address.
Application without CMS Account
Staff members can apply for a Physics Account in person at the institute's computing centre in room 1'424 or 1'405, or fill in the form, print it out, sign it, and hand it in at one of the rooms mentioned above or send it by internal mail to the Physics Institute computing centre (electronic completion is only possible with Adobe Acrobat Reader — not xpdf or kpdf).

Password Change
For security reasons, you are required to change your email password every six months. You will receive reminder emails in good time. After the password expiry date, you can still send and receive emails and change your password for a further six months. During this period, logging in to the PC pool with your Physics Account and other services linked to this account will not be possible until the password has been changed.
You can change your password at any time on the password change page.
