LGBT, LGBTI, LGBTIQ, LGBTI*
“LGBTIQ” or similar combinations are used as an abbreviation for ‘lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer people’. Accordingly, “LGBTIQ” stands for “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and queer”. These abbreviations describe strategic alliances between people with very different life realities, needs and goals, but who are all affected by discrimination because they do not conform to the prevailing ideas about gender and desire. In some spellings, additional letters such as “a” for asexual or an asterisk (*) are added as placeholders for other self-designations.
