Financial support for conferences, professional development, mentoring and scholarships
The Department of Physics supplies about 11 000 EUR every year for the advancement of gender diversity, equality and women's advancement in physics. For an application for financial support, please abide by the following instructions:
1. Advanced Training, Mentoring, Networking, Scholarships
It is possible to apply for:
- Advanced Training and Workshops that are not part of the standard study guide but are still important for your work.
- Mentoring (WiNS, Club Lise), Programs that encourage young girls to consider studying a subject in the natural sciences, engineering or computer science.
- Cofinancing female visiting scientists
- Scholarships for finishing a doctoral degree, interim financial support for at most 3 months at 1.000 EUR for social hardships
Application:
- Send an informal application to fb@physik.hu-berlin. This application should contain:
- An explanation of relevance of the financial support
- An expense allocation
- A statement of the head of your research group about her or his agreement and financial contribution
- The Committee for Women's Advancement will then decide, whether the funding will be approved.
2. Conferences and International Experience
We generally only fund active participation, e.g. a plenary talk or poster
Application:
- At least 4 months before the conference you should apply at the DFG. This is necessary because of the diverse possibilities to apply for funding there.
- If this application is unsuccessful, you can send an informal application to fb@physik.hu-berlin.de. This application should contain:
- An explanation of relevance of the financial support
- An expense allocation
- A statement of the head of your research group about her or his agreement and financial contribution
- For stays abroad: An invitation
- The Committee for Women's Advancement will then decide, whether the funding will be approved.
- You will then have to apply for a business trip. The forms will be available in your research group or the department for staff and budget, room 1'207.
- If you are unable to pay any fees in advance and wait for the refund, you will have to apply for additional subsidies. The corresponding form will again be available in your research group or the department for staff and budget.
- After the conference, you will have to write a travel expense report. The form will be available in your research group or the department for staff and budget. Subsequent any advanced money will be refunded.
Mentoring
Mentoring, Training, Coaching, Beratung und Vernetzung dienen der Stärkung des Potentials von Frauen gerade im mathematisch-naturwissenschaftlichen Bereich.
- Schülerinnen
Der Club-Lise ist ein interkulturelles Mentoringprogramm für Schülerinnen. Die Mentorinnen helfen, Facharbeiten zu verfassen und in verschiedene naturwissenschaftliche Berufe hineinzuschnuppern.
- Studienanfängerinnen ohne akademischen Hintergrund
Studienanfängerinnen ohne akademischen Hintergrund können an dem kostenlosen Programm firstgen teilnehmen. Dabei erhalten sie Hilfe von Studentinnen im Master- oder Promotionsstudium, die einmal selbst in dieser Situation waren.
- Habilitandinnen, Juniorprofessorinnen, Nachwuchsgruppenleiterinnen
Habilitandinnen, Juniorprofessorinnen und Nachwuchsgruppenleiterinnen können das Programm ProFiL nutzen. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein hochschulübergreifendes Mentoringprogramm zur Professionalisierung für Frauen. Dazu werden Seminare zu Karriereplanung, Self-Marketing, Führungskompetenzen, Hochschulmanagement und Drittmittelakquise angeboten. Das Programm kostet 250 Euro, ist allerdings für Stipendiatinnen und Wissenschaftlerinnen ohne Finanzierung kostenlos. Die Ausschreibung für den nächsten Durchgang wird vorraussichtlich im Januar 2017 stattfinden.
