How to search for Hidden Particles with a dedicated beam dump experiment at CERN’s SPS

Abstract

Ten years after the foundation of the SHiP (Search for Hidden Particles) collaboration, CERN selected in its
scientific diversity programme SHiP as the future flagship project to be built in a dedicated proton beamdump facility.
SHiP will extend the sensitivity in searches for very weakly interacting particles — such as Majorana neutrinos,
„dark" photons … — by several orders of magnitude, will search for light dark matter particles, and will offer
a portfolio of neutrino measurements.

In the search for hidden particles, SHiP aims for close-to-zero background over a runtime of 15 years.
HU Berlin is involved in the project from the very beginning and is leading the "Surrounding Background Tagger“
subdetector system, which is based on liquid scintillator as active detector material and a new photon detection
technology using Wavelength-Shifting Optical Modules.

The Colloquium will be held in "hybrid" format, i.e., you can join the talk in the lecture hall or via zoom.
