Department Colloquium: Prof. Paolo De Natale (Director of the National Institute of Optics, CNR, Italy) will speak about "Pushing Molecular Spectroscopy to the Extremes".
Abstract
The extension of frequency combs to the mid-IR and THz spectral ranges are revolutionizing the metrological quality of molecular spectroscopy measurements in this key and wide interval. This required appropriate and non-trivial nonlinear techniques for frequency down-conversion. Such developments are also enormously enlarging the quality and application range of spectroscopic measurements. Very recently, Quantum Cascade Lasers have shown a great potential for comb generation in spectral intervals chosen by design with all-in-one miniature devices. I will discuss progress in mid-IR and THz metrological progress of high resolution molecular spectroscopy and I will show very recent results for QCLs comb generation and control.
