We are active participants in the Supernova Factory, Zwicky Transient Facility, SCP/SeeChange and IceCube collaborations. Main projects include:
-
Using Type Ia supernovae to better understand why the expansion of the Universe is accelerating. This distance measurement technique led to the discovery of Dark Energy.
-
Using the Icecube neutrino detector, in combination with other astronomical observatories, to determine the source and nature of extragalactic neutrinos.
Student projects are generally available. Examples of current/recent projects are:
-
Measure optical properties for next generation wavelength-shifting detectors for the southpole Icecube detector.
-
Use the robotic Stella telescopes to observe and analyze nearby supernovae.
-
Measure properties of the local supernova host galaxy.
