Workshop biosignals and AAL challenges, trends, perspectives

The prospect of the availability of long term continuous recordings of vital signs and their possible integration with environmental signals as, for example, derived from  utility services, creates many opportunities for the field of biosignal analysis. The often encoubtered initially unspecific hypothesis, long measurement intervalls resulting in large amounts of data as well as the fusion of the heterogenic streams of data are topics that need to be addressed as early as possible to succesfully apply the technological advances in the area of Ambiend Assisted Living (AAL) to the improvement of patient care. This workshop aims to highlight the special challenges of joint long-term recording of biomedical signals and environmental data from the perspective of biosignal analysis, to identify methodological bottlenecks and to establish future directions for research and development. The findings resulting from this workshop are planned to be condensed into a position paper of the VDE technical committee for biosignals.
