Herr Dr. Bernhard Schwingenheuer vom Max-Planck-Institut für Kernphysik, Heidelberg spricht zum Thema "Neutrinoless double beta decay searches with Ge-76".

Abstract: Neutrinos have played a major role in the development of the Standard Model (SM) of particle physics. The fact that they have (tiny) mass is currently the only known beyond SM effect. If they are their own anti-particles (Majorana particles) like expected by extensions of the SM, then a rare lepton number violating decay called neutrinoless double beta decay (0nbb) should occur in isotopes like Ge-76. We have no understanding of observations like the baryon asymmetry of the universe or dark matter and so far data from the LHC give no hint. The detection of 0nbb would change our knowledge fundamentally. Historically, searches using Ge-76 have given among the most sensitive limits for 0nbb and the background reached are the lowest in the field. The current and future experimental program for 0nbb is discussed with emphasis on Ge-76.
