Department Colloquium: Prof. Dr. Janik Wolters (TU Berlin, DLR und Einstein Center Digital Future) will talk about:

Physical model systems for information and communication technology

Abstract

Models and concepts like single photons, atomic levels schemes, or neurons were developed to gain a deep understanding of nature. When used as building blocks these theoretical concepts allow for envisioning powerful applications, e.g. in secure communication and efficient computing. However, as models are simplified abstractions of reality, these building blocks cannot be found in nature directly. Experimental effort is needed to make them available in the lab. I will present our recent work on experimentally realizing photons, atoms, and neurons by the means of optics and outline potential use cases in (quantum) information and communication technology.

The Colloquium will be held in "hybrid" format, i.e., you can join the talk in the lecture hall or via zoom.
