Insights into studying physics – Videos

What is it like to study physics at HU? What should I expect? Physics students at HU share tips and insights into their studies.

I like such subjects as physics, algebra and so on. But sometimes it’s hard for me to write my research paper for these disciplines. In such cases I use this awesome platform that provides professional help with any kind of task.

I have decided to study physics at HU. What now?

The first step is to apply to HU: more information here. The application deadline for the winter semester 2025/26 is 31 August 2025. The program has no admission restrictions (NC-free) and can be started in both the winter and summer semester.

After being admitted to the physics program at HU, it is advisable to prepare for the start of the semester. The Physics Student Council (the representative body for all physics students) has set up the Portal for New Students for first-year students. Before the semester begins, the Student Council offers a bridging course and a first-year trip. The institute also offers a preparatory math course. These events provide an informal introduction to teaching at the Physics Institute. They are also an opportunity to meet fellow students and, in particular, to establish contact with students in higher semesters.

The lecture period for this winter semester begins on 13 October 2025. Students are free to enroll in modules as they wish. However, there is a recommended order for taking modules: the ideal study plan. Especially in the first semester, it is recommended to follow this plan since later modules build on the first semester’s content.

In the first semester, the recommended modules are designed to be taken without special prior knowledge:

  • Basic Tools of Physics: mathematical prerequisites for studying physics and basic knowledge of scientific methods and techniques
  • Physics I (Mechanics and Thermodynamics): theoretical foundations and experimental methods of Newtonian mechanics and thermodynamics
  • Linear Algebra and Calculus I: foundations of proof-based mathematics

These modules consist of two lectures and one exercise session per week, each lasting 90 minutes.

Unilab School Laboratory Adlershof

The UniLab School Laboratory is an initiative of the Physics Education Research Group at Humboldt University of Berlin. It offers students, teachers, and university students new perspectives on scientific work and promotes interest in the natural sciences among school pupils. In December 2003, the UniLab School Laboratory began operations. This created a practice-oriented field close to both schools and the university, which is used by students and teachers to test new teaching and learning methods. More information can be found on the UniLab website.
